Sports Massage

More and more sports and fitness enthusiasts include a sports massage as a part of their conditioning programme as it can boost performance and extend a sporting career.  However, a sports massage is not just for the professional athlete or the person who is training for the Olympics . It is for everyone and needs to be looked at as a health benefit and not a luxury.  People just like you and me are including sports massage as part of their regular healthy living programme.

Helen Price
Sports Massage Therapist MFHT

Helen is an accomplished fell and ultra-distance runner who has completed many of the most demanding off-road events in the UK and abroad, including the UTMB CCC & TDS, Lakeland 50 & 100 and arguably the toughest fell race in England, the Old County Tops.  In May 2015 Helen successfully completed the Bob Graham 24 Hour Round,  a circuit of 42 mountains in the English Lake district, covering 66 miles and 27,000 ft in vertical ascent.

She became interested in sports massage having observed the recurrent running injuries of her husband (also a keen off-road runner) and in many of her running clubmates, correctly determining that many of these injuries and muscular problems were preventable.

Qualified in ITEC Holistic Massage in 2006 and then again as an ITEC level 3 Sports Massage Therapist in 2010.  Helen can offer a number of special techniques including light massage, precision deep tissue massage, soft tissue manipulation, fascia release, trigger point work, and facilitated stretching along with other techniques.  As there is more soft tissue in the body than bony tissue, it is often the case that many issues can be treated effectively by using massage to relieve tension, which in turn may resolve other skeletal imbalances.

Helen is also qualified (2014) as a UK Athletics/Fell Runners Association accredited Leader in Running Fitness.

Helen’s passion for running gives her a huge empathy with other sportspeople and runners in particular.  She is very intuitive and has an exceptional “feel” for muscular problems, enabling her to treat them in an effective and timely manner. Helen’s skillful hands can help your muscles stay in good condition.
